21 - December 1

Topic - Write about a silver ring.

Sarah had found the ring in a dusty box at the back of the drawer.  Many times she took it out, put it on and wondered what the story behind it is.  In fact, all the items in the box were still a mystery.
One day, she was driving past a small store with 'Jeweler' on the top and decided to stop in.  She was wearing the ring so she figured it was a good time to check into this.  She parked the car and walked to the door.  Tinkling the bell at the top, she entered.
A little old man stood behind the counter, with a magnifying eyepiece on and checking out a necklace he obviously had taken from the display case.  He had a white shirt on and small tufts of hair still on his balding head.  He looked up.  "Can I help you, Miss?" he asked.
"I'm not sure.  I found this ring in a box of a relative of mine and was wondering what you could tell me about it?"
He took the ring from me and adjusted his eyepiece.  He stared intently at the stone.
"It's just a plastic stone but I found it in an odd place," she said.
"Oh no, my dear.  That is not a plastic stone!  Where did you say you got this again?"
"I found it in a box that used to be owned by a distant relative of mine," she said.  He didn't need to know the whole story.
"Well, I can tell you that this ring was not made here.  Nor in this country.  It was made somewhere in Europe and, I would guess, and at least 75 to 100 years ago.  This is not a common  gem here and is from somewhere else completely.  I can also tell you that the setting is a very high quality gold.  And ..." he took a very small tool from the shelf beside him, and used it to push at something below the stone.  Suddenly, the ring popped open.  Tucked in the base of the ring was a small space.  And in that space was a lavender stone that sparkled like the most incredible snow flake Sarah had ever seen!
    "What is that?" she asked.
"I'm not sure.  I've never seen anything like it before,"  he said again with wonder in his voice.  "And you found this in a deserted house? That is almost too much to believe!"
"I'm starting to think the same," Sarah breathed in awe.  This was even more unsettling than believing it was a glass ring before.
"Can I hang on to this for a while?  I want to check into it," the old man said.
"Um, I don't think right now.  I would like it back and perhaps sometime in the near future, I'll bring it back.  This is completely unexpected and I need to figure out what to do now," Sarah said and reached out for the ring and stone.
Reluctantly, he put the ring and gem back in my hand.  "If you change your mind, please keep me in mind," he said.
"Yes, for sure," she said ... but she was hardly paying attention as she walked out of the small store.  This changed everything.
